Tweed Publishing FAQs
What is your specialty?
We specialize in non-fiction with a focus on niche how-to books. We look for titles with very little competition on Amazon.com and other retailers. Our goal is to give authors the best opportunity to connect their books with readers.
We plan to publish 12-24 books annually in trade paperback and up to 100 manuscripts annually to e-book.
Are you a vanity publisher?
No. Vanity publishing relies entirely on the author to sell books, and the author can keep up to 70% but typically is required to purchase several thousand copies of their book.
We are also not a traditional publisher. In traditional publishing advances on royalties are paid, but only a handful of titles will be truly marketed by the publisher. Most authors never see royalties (usually 15%) beyond the advance. Additionally the publisher, not the author, owns the copyright for the title.
Tweed Publishing is a hybrid. We don’t pay advances but we do support our authors in marketing their books. Our royalties are 40% of sales. We cover the costs of layout and cover designs and assist in writing sales copy and printing promotional materials. Our authors own the copyright to their work, except for exclusive rights we reserve for Amazon sales.
Do you use Kindle Direct Publishing?
Yes, all of our books are published on Kindle. Additionally many titles are available in paperback. Some topics don’t require depth to be covered thoroughly, and are ideal for Kindle how-to books. We also publish books for other retailers if the title is successful on Amazon.com. Generally the benchmark is 1000 copies in paperback and 1000 on Kindle to be considered for additional publishing.
Do you accept first-time authors?
Absolutely! We don’t accept every author like a vanity press, but we want to give authors the opportunity to earn money from day one after their books are published.
We also love experienced authors who have been ignored by the publisher. If your book has been out for more than a year, we will consult with you about negotiating to retrieve your copyright, and may republish your work under our hallmark.
